Horseshoe Bend 2014

Horseshoe Bend is near Page, AZ and is a
photographer's favorite Colorado River bend viewpoint.
this deep canyon river are challenging, as the high vantage point is
dangerous, and a very wide angle lens is needed to see the whole scene
in one shot. A panorama of several shots can be taken with
an ordinary longer lens, and stitched together in the computer
afterwards, but an extra-wide-angle lens makes the image capture far
These photos were taken by using a 11-16mm f/2.8
Tokina lens, which was very adequate to include the whole picture on my
Canon 7D camera. The time was near sunset, so I experienced
a few shots which had modest amounts lens flare from the sunlight
striking the lens. It was easy to eliminate during image
second image below has a warning about the dangerous cliff edges
above this river view, which can be deceptive about
supporting a viewer who stands too close to the edge!
A hike of about a mile takes a bit of effort on a sandy trail which
climbs to a high crest before descending a long distance to the edge of
the river bend view. It is a popular place, with many people
sharing the view.
A hint if you need some more screen room to see comments, etc:
